Qing Liu: Yarkand Over the Strings
Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra, Tien-Ku Percussion Group / Chih-Sheng Chen / National Concert Hall, Taipei, Taiwan http://www.littlegiant.idv.tw/index.htm
Yarkand or the Yerqiang Kingdom, was located at the southern borders of the vast Western Region in China 500 years ago and was one of the 36 khanates there. The capital was built in Shache, a central cross-point between the central and the southern routes of the Silk Road. This is the tale of the beautiful and mysterious Queen Amannisa Khan and her unprecedented love affair with Abdurashid Khan. Their love story resulted in the creation of the treasured Twelve Muqam, known as the mother of Uyghur music. This work begins with an elderly man telling this ancient love story as he walks in the desert..
