Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra, Tien-Ku Percussion Group, Taipei Puppet Theater / Chih-Sheng CHEN / DaDaoCheng Theater, Taipei, Taiwan 2018.7.20.
Adapted from one of the four classic Chinese literary masterpieces, the “Outlaws of the Marsh” or “Water Margin” presents examples of loyalty, revenge, retribution, and gratitude. This story describes legendary hero and martial arts master Wu Song’s fight with a tiger at Jingyang Post. The entire work uses percussion and wind instruments combined with hand puppets to enact a thrilling battle between human and tiger. The audience can experience the beauty of traditional opera through these exciting visual scenes.
Special thanks to the director of Taipei Puppet Theater Yung-Chih LIN, and professors Chiung-Chi HSIEH and Sheng-Chieh WU for their assistance in making this a successful performance.
